My Name Is Khan Review

My Name Is Khan Movie Review

Those who feel that Shah Rukh Khan has done a brilliant work in films like “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge”, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, “Dil To Pagal Hai”, “Swades”, “Chak De India”,… well I would say to them – hold on and watch “My Name Is Khan” and you all will say Shah Rukh is better in this. And yes there is scope of being better beyond brilliance, that’s what Shah Rukh has proved.

The message is clear; there are only two kinds of people in this world, good and bad. And humans should be judged on this basis rather than being a Hindu, a Christian and a Muslim. And in order to prove this fact, Shah Rukh as Rizwan Khan embarks a political, emotional and geographical journey across America to meet American President and tell him, “Mr. President! My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist!”

The statement seemed to be childish, and we all feel that since Rizwan is suffering from Asperger's Syndrome, he could think about meeting US President and conveying this message. But Karan Johar has done a fantastic job in creating the importance and need of such a message to be passed on.

The film is a love story that gets shattered with a new dateline being introduced in the history: 9/11 and post it, the world for “Khans” is at stake. As every moment of the story unfolds to tell the timeless tale of Rizwan Khan, we are simply swept away with its tides to discover how humanity wins over the whole world, which understands the language of racism.

Rizwan’s family had to bear the brunt of racial prejudice. And now in order to get back the love of his life, Rizwan’s journey begins. He "can repair anything" to accomplish his mission, but ironically enough, ends up repairing the otherwise, “irreparable relations” and becomes an inspiration for the whole nation.

Actors like Zarina Wahab, Sonya Jehan, Jimmy Shergill, Arjun Mathur, Parvin Dabas and Arif Zakaria have done a great job too. Kajol as Shah Rukh’s inspiration leaves a lasting performance. The chemistry between the two is magical. And Karan’s direction is flawless.

In an interview with Star news, Shah Rukh said,
“I want to be known as an actor who tried.”

Well Shah Rukh aka Rizwan Khan not only tried but succeeded too. And yes, “We shall overcome”.
